If We Should Ever Meet Again

Author(s): Richard Trembath

Poetry

Richard Trembath has led a life of many facets and has generally been regarded by those who know him as a most unlikely poet.Orphaned at 16 after growing up in the tiny town of Walwa, in the Upper Murray Valley, he spent most of his working life as a journalist specialising in horse racing, first with one of Melbourne's major newspaper companies, then the other. He combined this with his passion for the 'hands on' aspect of harness racing, breeding, training and driving horses in races for 35 years, during which time he won several of the sport's major events as well as numerous journalistic awards for literary excellence, photography and video documentaries. He also had four of his songs released commercially.Trembath was an inaugural member of harness racing's Hall of Fame but in later years returned to his boyhood love of athletics, winning ten Australian Masters' Athletics Championships, at one stage being ranked No 1 in the world in his age-group in long hurdles. He was also heavily involved in the administration of the sport and managed one of Masters' Athletics' most successful venues for many years.During all this time, however, he continued to write poetry and short stories, If We Should Ever Meet Again being his third book. He prides himself in writing poetry which 'the man in the street' understands and appreciates.Like his two previous books, If We Should Ever Meet Again presents a cross-section of Trembath's poetry, short stories and award-winning newspaper and magazine stories.
